TEXAS — Philip E. Julian, age 80, of Sabattus went to be with hIs Lord at 9:35 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at the home of his daughter, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Phil was born July 18, 1937, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Marie and Marius Julian. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1955, and joined the Navy on July 5, 1955. Phil married Barbara Duncan on May 16, 1959, in San Jose, California,

Phil served in the Navy for 21 years, attaining the rank of master chief petty officer as an aviation electrician. Phil earned his associate’s degree at Wentworth Institute of Technology as the valedictorian of his class and was recommended for the position of E10. (master chief petty officer in the Navy).

During Phil’s naval career, he served on the Enterprise, Kearsarge, Intrepid and Independence, and served in the Vietnam War. Phil retired from the Navy in 1976 in Brunswick, where he worked as superintendent of maintenance and transportation for the Brunswick School Department and later for the Boothbay Harbor School Department.

Phil and Barbara also served in Christian Ministry in the inner city of Philadelphia for five years at E.A.P.E. Together they were actively involved in the ministry of their home church, First Assembly of God in Lewiston, where Phil taught and led Bible studies. Phil loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul and mind and longed for others to know Christ, as well.

Phil and Barbara had 10 children, 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, whom they loved and prayed for daily. One of Phil’s more-treasured recognitions was winning the Father of the Year Award, which his family would agree was well-deserved.

Phil is survived by his children: Jeri Elliott and spouse, Thomas; Janet Stamboules and spouse, George; Laura Anderson; Bob Julian; David Julian and spouse, Tara; Tracy Love and spouse, Stephen; Susan Lansley and spouse, Scott; Diane Burns and spouse, Todd; Ruthann Weece and spouse, Joe; Philip Julian and spouse, Sherri. Phil is also survived by his brother, Joe Julian, of Bloomington, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Julian; father and mother, Marius and Marie Julian; and his brothers: Paul Julian, Harold Julian and Robert Julian; and his sister, Ruth Hinshaw.
