New Auburn chili/chowder challenge
AUBURN — The United New Auburn Association and Walton School have teamed up to offer a chili/chowder challenge from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Walton School.
It will feature chili and chowders from local businesses and community members. Admission is $5 at the door. Raffle baskets will be offered from local businesses and entry will give patrons the chance to vote for New Auburn’s best chili and chowder.

Legion to celebrate 99th anniversary
SABATTUS — Harry J. Conway Post 135, American Legion, will celebrates the Legion’s 99th birthday at an open house and free bean meal for area veterans on Sunday, March 18.
The meal will be served from noon to 2 p.m. at the post home, 40 Island Road. Immediately following, there will be a cake-cutting ceremony in honor of the American Legion’s 99th birthday.
An accredited American Legion Service Officer will be on hand to answer questions about VA benefits as well as Legionnaires to talk about programs and membership in the local post.
A meeting of American Legion Department of Maine District 3 will begin at 2 p.m.
The Sabattus American Legion has been serving the community since December 0f 1924.
Knitting Knights to convene
LEWISTON — Lewiston Pubic Library has announced will host the Knitting Knights from 5 to 6:30 p.m. every other Wednesday in the Jeanne Couture Room.
All ages and skill levels are welcome, and no registration is required. Library staff will be available to teach new knitters, and welcome experienced knitters to share their knowledge and skills. Bottled water and hot tea will be provided, and some supplies will be available for beginners.
Neighborhood Watch meeting slated
AUBURN — A New Auburn Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at the Sixth Street Congregational Church.
