BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust’s speaker series, “A Day in the Life,” will continue when Caroline Blair Smith of Mornington Crescent Sled Dogs will share the life of a dog-sledder. The community is invited to hear her — and to meet one of her dogs — at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at McLaughlin Auditorium on the Gould Academy campus.

Smith’s first sled-dog puppy joined her family in 1999 and many more have followed. She offered her first sled-dog tour in 2004 and ran her first 250-mile race, the Can-Am Crown, in 2005. Winter is now divided between her day job at Hurricane Island Outward Bound school where she’s work since the 1990s, tours, racing and running dogs just for fun.

For thousands of years, dogs have been essential in northern regions for transportation, hunting and protection. Now, dog teams are primarily recreational and educational. Smith will share the ways her dogs are part of her family, with relationships of trust, respect, teamwork and mutual learning.

The Mahoosuc Land Trust is an accredited community land trust encouraging public interest in conservation in central Oxford County and eastern Coos County, New Hampshire, supporting a balance of growth and conservation and emphasizing sustainable and traditional land uses.
