LEWISTON — The Movement & Wellness Center has opened at 170 Summer St. The business offers yogalates, senior fitness and Rock Steady Boxing classes. It plans to offer a larger variety of exercise classes and other special events in the near future.

Kelly LaCroix, LMT, owner of the business, offers therapeutic massage therapy. She focuses her practice on therapeutic massage and the relief of pain associated with soft-tissue injuries and dysfunction.

Johanne Healey is the instructor for yogalates and senior fitness classes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. She has been a certified fitness instructor and personal trainer for more than 20 years. Yogalates is a combination of yoga and pilates, with an exercise ball to enhance core strength, balance and flexibility. The senior fitness class is a complete workout geared to seniors with a variety of cardio resistance, balance and flexibility exercises.

Rock Steady Boxing is based on training used by boxing pros and adapted to people with Parkinson’s disease. The program involves regular exercises, such as stretching, running, jumping rope, push-ups, balancing, and lots of noncontact boxing, led by experienced trainers/coaches. The program serves men and women of all ages and levels of ability.

A Parkinson’s disease support group is held the third Saturday of every month. The meeting is intended to bring together those whose lives have been impacted by Parkinson’s disease. Caregivers are encouraged to attend as well.

An Open House will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 14, during Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month. More classes and events are being planned for future dates.
