Journalism scholarships available for Mainers

ELLSWORTH — The Guy P. Gannett Journalism Scholarship Fund seeks applications from Maine students.

The Gannett Scholarship provides renewable support for students majoring in journalism or a field reasonably related, including print, broadcast or electronic media. The fund helps pay tuition to attend an undergraduate, graduate, trade or technical school.

The deadline for applications is Sunday, April 1. To apply online, go to www.mainecf.org.

Applicants must be graduates of Maine high schools or have been home-schooled in Maine. Students will be chosen based on demonstrated interest in journalism through their choice of coursework and extracurricular activities, as well as financial need and academic achievement.

Tri-Town Penguins to meet

DURHAM — The Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club of Durham, Freeport and Pownal will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road.

The last meeting of the season will be April 24. New members are welcome.

AUBURN — The United New Auburn Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at Rolly’s Diner.

TOPS chapter to hold open house

AUBURN — TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) ME 0192 will hold an open house on Tuesday, March 27, at the Hasty Community Center, 48 Pettingill Park Road.

The speaker will be Maureen Higgins, LCSW, Cancer Health Outreach Educator with the Dempsey Center. She will discuss lifestyle changes that can reduce the risk of cancer.

Weigh-in for members will be from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m. Higgins will speak at 10 a.m.
