Dear Sun Spots: I’m a 90-year-old great-grandmother who has recently taken up a new hobby sewing dresses for the “Dress A Girl Around The World” campaign (dressagirlaroundtheworld.com). This project brings dignity to girls and women around the world by providing what might be the only item of clothing they have ever owned. By putting the “Dress a Girl” label on the dresses, it helps protect them from predators, because the label indicates that an organization is looking after them. I was wondering if anyone has any supplies to donate that I could then turn into lovely little dresses?

They do need to be a bit specific as there is a set pattern that is used and everything must be 100% cotton. The fabric needs to be at least one yard, especially bright, fun, and pretty designs, no images of food, words, patriotic designs, or Halloween or Christmas images, and no trademarked characters (i.e., Disney or sports). The straps are made from three yards of 100% cotton 1/2″ double-wide, double-fold bias binding (full lengths only) – any color. The trim is 100% cotton, eyelet, rick-rack or daisy-chain-style in any color, especially white.

Remember these are fun, colorful dresses for little girls. My granddaughter can pick up donations. Just call 207-782-2065 or drop them off at the Sun Journal front desk, as she works there. Thank you for your help!

ANSWER: I am over the top impressed by this letter from this 90-years-young lady. What an inspiration you are!

I hope you have many donations of fabric and trimmings. Dress a Girl Around the World is a campaign under Hope 4 Women International (a 501 (c) 3 organization) that gives dignity to women around the world. Hope 4 Women International is a nondenominational independent Christian organization. They dream of a world in which every girl has at least one new dress. This is a way to show the girls that they are worthy of respect and that they are loved.

I’m going out this week to purchase some supplies. How about you?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Here is some more information regarding area Bingo events. Mondays at noon, the New Auburn Senior Citizens gather at Sacred Heart Parish, 8 Sacred Heart Place in Auburn.

On the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at noon, Robin Dow hosts the bingo event at Schooner Estates, 200 Stetson Rd. in Auburn.

—Peter, recreation specialist, Auburn

ANSWER: Thank you so much, Peter. Who knew there were so many opportunities for playing Bingo in the local area!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Just a note that the Bingo on Lisbon St. is at the old Cavalier Club building, but is run by Loaves & Fishes of Sabattus and has nothing to do with the Cavalier Club. I manage the Bingo there. Because people requested us to open, Loaves & Fishes picked up Wednesday noon. Just to clarify, it is not Cavalier Club Bingo, but Loaves & Fishes at 855 Lisbon St. in the old Cavalier Club Bingo Hall.

ANSWER: Thank you for this clarification. It’s a bit confusing differentiating who hosts the bingo and where the buildings are. I hope I’m providing enough information to readers.
