AUBURN — Mary Dillingham-Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will host Nancy LeCompte, Maine author and authority on Maine Indians, as they explore facts and fiction surrounding the Native American woman known as Molly Ockett.

Ockett lived from 1740 to 1816 and served as a doctress and midwife to many of this region’s early settlers. She is also the victim of a few culturally insensitive legends and the bigotry of reporters in bygone years.

The meeting will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Auburn Public Library Conference Room. The meeting is open to the public, especially to anyone interested in joining the DAR.

Prospective members must be a female over age 18 and be able to prove a blood line to a Revolutionary War Patriot or someone who gave aid to the cause of American Independence.

Those attending should bring a bag lunch, and members are reminded to bring items for the garage sale at State Conference as well as items for the Conference Basket. Call Bev Robbins, 207-577-0706, for more information.
