DEAR SUN SPOTS: SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage & Hope) is a program of Catholic Charities Maine. We are looking for people to volunteer a few hours a week to provide companionship, assistance with grocery shopping, errands, and home and yard projects for our senior clients who live in the towns of Jay and Livermore Falls to Farmington in Franklin County.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For Earth Day, I was cleaning up road trash in South Paris. As each bag was filled, I left it by the side of the road for one grand pickup later. With five bags filled, and running out of containers, I was stopped by a fellow in a white pickup truck and asked if I was the one leaving the bags. I said yes. He answered that he had picked one up because he thought someone had been dumping trash on the road. After I explained what I was doing, he offered to pick up the other bags and take some larger items I had in a pail. His kindness saved me a trip to the dump and allowed me to fill up my last bag and the pail on the remainder of the route. What a wonderful fellow and such a great example to the young man who was his passenger. Hats off to him and a big thank-you to a good Samaritan. Perhaps this can be done by others with a truck, as the cleanup from winter continues!
