JAY — Selectpersons and members of the Budget Committee will hold an emergency meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, to discuss and vote on a budget article for professional services.
The meeting will be at the Town Office.
The Professional Services article for $201,215 failed by a 213-261 vote Tuesday. It was the only one not approved in a proposed $6.18 million municipal spending plan for 2018-19.
The Budget Committee recommended a no vote on the article by a 5-6 vote and selectpersons recommended a yes vote in a 3-2 vote. Both recommendations appeared on the ballot.
The sticking point was a proposal to reduce the proposed $50,000 for the valuation reserve account in the article to about $30,000. Other reserve accounts were reduced and the final $1.33 million payment to settle a tax dispute with Verso Corp. was included in the proposed budget.
The Professional Services article contains funding for the following:
• Legal services: $40,000
• Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments: $11,800
• Maine Municipal Association: $8,800
• Industrial valuation: $25,000
• Chamber of Commerce: $60
• Auditor’s services: $13,000
• Assessing services: $32,000
• Assessing expenses: $700
• Plumbing inspector, animal control: $9,155
• Animal welfare: $10,200
• Grave care: $500
• Valuation reserve: $50,000
By voting Monday, the article can go to hearing May 14 and to voters June 12, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.
