WEST PARIS — Nellie Marcia Weeks, 78, of West Paris, formerly of Revere Beach, Mass., passed away Tuesday, April 17, at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris.
A native of South Paris, she was born to the late Leland E. and Mildred F. Weeks of South Paris.
Her love of dance and music propelled her through life. As a member of the Norway Paris Comets Drum and Bugle Corps, she was an avid participant at local parades and events. Having studied dance in both Boston and New York City, Marcia moved on to open her own dance studios. Having moved to New Hampshire and Massachusetts, Marcia continued to teach the art of dance by opening a studio in the basement of her home.
Her talent as a choreographer took her from teaching students at local school plays to teaching dance for plays both on- and off-Broadway. Because of her talents and commitment to her community, she was nominated for the Outstanding Young Woman of America in 1971.
As a committed mother she took her family on many camping trips to see different parts of the country. This sparked an adventurous side in her that led to travels to the Great Wall of China, Italy, Ireland and beyond. It was not unusual for friends and family to receive postcards of her travels. Marcia lived her dreams of dance and travel to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland E. Weeks Sr. and Francis Weeks; and a sister, Mary L. Weeks.
Survivors include son, Wayne Judkins of Saco; son, Scott Judkins, and wife, Sandy, of Ephrata, Pa.; and daughter, Sharon Moores, and husband, David, of Portsmouth, N.H.; her grandchildren, Matthew Judkins and wife, Brooke, Erin Vannah and husband, Steven, Tiffany Judkins, Jordan Moores, Kelsey Moores and Reese Moores.
Condolences and tributes may be shared with her family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
