AUBURN — Edward Little shut out Mt. Blue on Thursday with help from pitchers Ben Cassidy and Jake Arel to move to 10-0 on the season, winning 7-0 in a Class A North baseball matchup.
Cassidy threw six scoreless innings with six strikeouts, and Arel struck out the side in the seventh. Grant Hartley smacked a double and Arel pitched in two singles in the win.
Mt. Blue (0-9) received a single each from Wyatt Viles and Isaac Cardona.
Girls’ Lacrosse
Oxford Hills 15, Westbrook 2
PARIS — Caroline Burns led Oxford Hills with five goals as the Vikings downed Westbrook 15-2 on Thursday in girls’ lacrosse.
Behind Burns’ five goals was Julia Colby who scored four for Oxford Hills (5-1) and Megan Letourneau and Cecelia Dieterich with two a piece.
Westbrook (0-5) received goals from McKayla Russell and Katie Champagne. Oxford Hills goalie Tiana James and Westbrook goalie Sydney Cole each made seven saves.
EL boys top poll
In this week’s Varsity Maine baseball poll, Edward Little was voted the consensus number one team, receiving all five first-place votes.
On Thursday the Red Eddies shut out Mt. Blue 7-0 on the back of Ben Cassidy’s six strikeouts and a three strikeout, two-hit game from Jake Arel to move to 10-0 on the season. Bangor (8-1) is in second place after defeating Camden Hills on Wednesday 13-3. In third place are the Vikings of Oxford Hills (6-2), who this week have had losses against Edward Little and Lewiston.
In the softball rankings, Scarborough received five of the six first-place votes and 59 total points. The Red Riots (9-0) defeated Portland on Wednesday 11-0. In the second place is Skowhegan (8-0) who received the final first-place vote. Skowhegan defeated Cony 10-0 on Wednesday. In third place is Noble (7-1).
The poll is a collaboration of writers from the Sun Journal, the Portland Press Herald and the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel.
