FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Academy Music Department presents the annual Spring Concert at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center on Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted at the door. All donations will benefit the Fryeburg Police Department’s efforts to raise money for Saco River patrol equipment.
This year, Fryeburg Academy’s Band and Chorus will perform music that celebrates the 100th anniversary of composer Leonard Bernstein’s birth. As one of America’s most prolific composers, and one of the world’s most noted conductors, Leonard Bernstein has had a tremendous impact on both concert music and music for the theater.
The Chorus and Band will perform selections from Bernstein’s “West Side Story” and “Candide.” The Fryeburg Academy Band will also feature Molly Ockett Middle School’s Band Director, Josh Bosse, as flute soloist in Gary Schocker’s flute sonata, “Regrets and Resolutions.” One of New England’s top high school French hornists, Gwen Boros, will also be featured with the Fryeburg Academy Band. The Chorus will present a special preview of music they will perform with the Molly Ockett Middle School at the MSAD 72 Chorus Concert at the LHE/PAC on May 15. Eleanor Daley’s “The Bridgebuilder” will be sung in honor of the Fryeburg Academy graduating class of 2018.
