RUMFORD — Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 of the American Legion will observe Memorial Day, May 28, with a parade and ceremonies at the Rotary Memorial Green in Rumford before going to the Veterans Memorial Green in Mexico.
The American Legion is calling all area veterans to participate in the parade. Rides will be provided for veterans who are unable to or do not want to walk the route.
The parade will start at 10 a.m., with the route as follows: leave the staging area in front of the American Legion Post on Congress Street across from Rite-Aid, proceed right onto Portland Street across the Memorial Bridge to the Rotary Green for a brief ceremony. From there proceed down Rumford Avenue, left onto Waldo Street, right onto Lincoln Avenue, through downtown Mexico and proceed to the Veterans Memorial Green there for a brief ceremony.
Following the parade, Post 24 will host an open house and a luncheon.
Any group or individuals interested in participating should call Tricia Thurston at 207-369-0831 and leave a message. The post is looking for military vehicles to be in the parade.
If it rains, a brief ceremony will be held in the American Legion Hall.
