GALLOWAY, N.J. — Marguerite M. Gaudet, 91, of Mexico died Thursday, May 10, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Mexico on Aug. 22, 1926, the daughter of Vincent and Marie (Arsenault) Poirier. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, class of 1945, and from Mt. Ida College in Massachusetts, class of 1948.
Marguerite worked as a laboratory technician at the Quincy City Hospital and then for the Rumford Community Hospital for 35 years. She was a communicant of parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius – St. John Church in Rumford. She was married in 1950 to the late James J. Collins and married the late William H. Gaudet in 1973.
Marguerite personified perseverance. She led by example to all she knew, as an independent, kind, honest and strong woman. She was always game for the next adventure, road trip or party. Walking through her door initiated a warm welcome, followed by, “Would you like a cup of tea?” Some of her biggest joys in life included spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, traveling, spending time by her pool, playing cards and enjoying a glass of red wine. ’Mom’, ‘Meme’, ‘Aunt Marg’ will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include daughters Marguerite Perry and husband, Gene, of Alna, Maine; Kathleen Carroll and husband, Ronald, of Bethel, Maine; and Jane Sperlak of Estelle Manor, N.J.; a son, William Collins, and wife, Marie, of Roxbury, Maine; step-children Leslie Doucette, William Gaudet, and Tom Gaudet; seven grandchildren: Christopher Perry and wife, Barbara; Cory Perry and wife, Sarah; Dawn Hayes and husband, Jeff; Angela Carroll; Jonathan Gasson; Elizabeth Tanguay-Collins; and Noah Tanguay-Collins; six great-grandchildren: Madeline, Jett, Jonathan, Charlotte, Catherine and Marguerite; her two sisters Adrianne Law of Rumford and Bernadette Mickeriz and companion, Dr. John Gallant, of Rumford; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Poirier, of Rumford. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; brothers Alphonse, Albert and Bernard; sister Genevieve; and son-in-law Stephen Sperlak.
