Bus mechanics Rob Sawyer, left, and his son Tyler Sawyer change the front two tires on school bus No.13 at the Regional School Unit 16 bus garage in Poland on Wednesday. Classes were canceled after staff discovered 21 school buses had slashed tires, said transportation director Tom Kelly. The entire fleet of buses, except a few that were not parked on sight were vandalized, said Kelly. Some buses had multiple tires slashed with what appears to be a sharp object such as a knife. Every damaged tire must be replaced, said Kelly. Rob Sawyer said two local suppliers of tires have stepped in to help. "We are hoping to have school on Thursday," said Kelly.
