RUMFORD — Garrett Garbarini belted two home runs, a triple and drove in seven runs on Thursday to lead Mountain Valley to a 16-7 late-season baseball victory over Winthrop. 

Garbarini also threw 5 and 2/3 innings in relief for the Falcons (11-3). Morgan Bellemare gave the Ramblers (8-6) a 7-2 lead in the second frame with a three-run triple. Greg Fay also contributed with a pair of hits. 

The two squads were tied at 2-2 after one inning before Winthrop’s offense hit high gear. 

Telstar 9, Spruce Mountain 2

BETHEL — Telstar erupted for five runs in the second inning and raced away to a 9-2 win over Spruce Mountain in more late-season baseball action on Thursday.

Joe Sicotte ignited the big rally with a base hit. After a walk by Joe Dillon and a single by Colby Marriot, Tristen Lilly drew another walk and was followed by Blake Rothwell who blasted a double.

Zach Hill drove in the rest of the runs for Telstar (9-2) with a deep sacrifice fly to right field. The Phoenix got on the board in the fourth, yet the Rebels answered with two more of their own. 

Softball

Telstar 14, Spruce Mountain 7

BETHEL — Telstar erupted for seven runs in the first inning and raced away to post a 14-7 victory over Spruce Mountain in a late-season MVC softball tilt on Thursday. 

Luci Rothwell went 4-for-4 to lead the Rebels and had a key steal to home plate to build momentum. Kylee Martin came up big with an RBI double, while Hannah Evans, Taylor Mason and Josie Forbes belted out well-timed singles. 

Talented multi-sport athlete Allison Acritelli led the Phoenix with RBI singles, while Hannah Turcotte suffered the loss.

Boys’ lacrosse

Messalonskee 16, Edward Little 3

OAKLAND — Austin Pelletier led Messalonslee with five goals and three assists in a 16-3 victory over Edward Little in a boys’ lacrosee contest Thursday.

Colin Kinney had three goals and three assists in the victory for the Eagles (6-5). Dawson Charles had four goals while Christian Alley and Alden Balboni each had a pair of goals.

Goaltender CJ Reardon made five saves.

Caleb Davis had two goal for the Red Eddies (3-8) while Eli Thibodeau had a goal. Tyler Morin, Cam Audette and Dawson Tracey each had an assist.
