DEAR SUN SPOTS: Mark your calendars and plan to attend the Annual 7½ Mile Yard Sale sponsored by the Heywood Club of Norway. It will be held rain or shine Saturday, June 9, starting at 8 a.m. Many sales will be held by neighbors along Pleasant Street, Crockett Ridge, Round the Pond Road and Millettville, and the Heywood Clubhouse at the four corners. If you live on one of these roads and would like to join in the fun, plan a sale for that day.

If you don’t want to have your own sale, donations are welcome and can be dropped off on the porch of the clubhouse. We accept anything that will sell, that is clean and works. No big appliances, large furniture or clothes. For more information, contact Beth Abbott at 461-2334 or Barbara Townsend at 743-5150. Come and support Neighbors Helping Neighbors!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: When you pay by credit card at a restaurant, when does the waitress get her tip if the customer doesn’t leave the money on the table, but adds the tip to the card?

ANSWER: I asked a server and she said bank card tips were included in her weekly paycheck. I’d like to hear from other servers about whether they receive their tips in a different way.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Wednesday, May 16, I went to Kentucky Fried Chicken for lunch with my mom, who is 92 years old, a cousin, niece, and a friend. All but one are senior citizens. The lunch crowd was huge and we were all enjoying our meal and conversation when a group of young men came in who were all nice, polite and patient. The server was very efficient, friendly and calm, even though there was a line almost out the door.

The young men got their orders and were having their lunch when all of a sudden they broke out in song — a cappella — with beautiful harmony. Their voices were amazing and everyone was listening. My mom loves music and was so impressed. She had a huge smile on her face and when they were done, we all clapped.

They were such gentlemen and when I asked where they sang, they said they were a group from Yale University. I’d pay good money to hear them in concert.

We left right behind them and when I honked my horn, they rolled down their window. Mom told them how much she loved their voices. They thanked her and seemed pleased by their “groupie” who they could barely see from their vehicle. She is a little lady — 4 feet, 11 inches tall and 84 pounds at most — but she has spunk and sings all day long.

Who would have thought we would have such a treat while eating lunch at KFC on a Wednesday? Mom enjoyed this so much and I was excited for her. Thank you, Yale singers!
