Benefit planned for cancer patient
RUMFORD — There will be a benefit held for Jim Austin at noon on Saturday, June 9, at the Rumford Eagles hall.
Austin has been diagnosed with Stage IV cancers of the head and neck. There will be numerous bands, food, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle.
Those wishing to donate to the auction or help out may leave a message for Jo Thurston Gaudet at 207-364-3597. Donations will be taken at the door.
Contradance set at Norway church
NORWAY — A contradance will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the First UU Church of Norway, 479 Main St. Music will be by the Better Late Than Never Band with Shari Shakti calling.
Cost is $8; $20, family max. Beginners are welcome with or without a partner. Bring clean shoes for dancing.

Beekeeping workshop
PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club’s workshop will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.
Master Beekeeper Phil Gaven, owner and operator of the “Honey Exchange” in Portland, will speak to members on “swarms,” preventing, catching and trapping. Those attending should bring veils in case of an open hive. The public is welcome.

Children’s day celebration planned
WILTON — The East Wilton Union Church is hosting a “Celebrate Children’s Day” event at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, June 10, at 1306 Main St in East Wilton.
There will be a worship service with a special children’s speaker from Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Following the morning service there will be an all-church family cookout on the lawn with food provided by the church.
There will be lawn games for the children. There will also be a plant and a beach ball for each child to take home. All children are invited to come and join in the celebration.

WILTON — The Wilton Democratic Committee will meet and host a primary candidate meet and greet from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 11, at Collins Cakes & Bakes on Main St. in Wilton where voters in the region are invited to enjoy free desserts while talking with candidates on the Democratic primary ballot.
