AUBURN — Award-winning journalist and teacher Jackie Majerus will be guest speaker for the L-A Rotary Lunch Club on June 14.

The lunch will be from noon to 1 p.m. at The Village Inn, 165 High St.

Majerus co-founded the educational nonprofit Youth Journalism International in 1994. Working with student reporters, artists and photographers, she guides young journalists as they tackle serious societal issues such as teen suicide, school violence, politics, war and terrorism. She also works with students writing about popular culture, entertainment and everyday teenage life.

Majerus previously enjoyed a successful career as a newspaper reporter at daily papers in Connecticut, New York and Illinois. She has worked as a freelance reporter for The National Law Journal and United Press International.

She is a member of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club in Maine and past president of the Bristol Rotary Club in Bristol, Connecticut, and a member of the Journalism Educators Association.

Majerus is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She and her husband live in Auburn and are the parents of a Bates College senior and a junior at Middlebury College.

Reservations are not required at the luncheon. Visiting Rotarians and community members are welcome to attend.
