INDUSTRY — Dawson Tolman, 17, of Wilton is recovering “spectacularly” from a fall off a cliff on Little Pico Ridge last week, his mother Dawn Tolman said Tuesday.
He had a broken foot and facial lacerations but just two days after the fall he was back to his old self, she said.
“He fell about 30 feet,” Industry Fire Rescue Chief Wesley Witherly said Tuesday.
Witherly was not sure how the boy fell, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
The teen and a friend had been at an observation point that overlooks Clearwater Pond early Thursday evening when the accident happened.
The rescue was coordinated well, Dawn Tolman said.
Dawson was able to tell Franklin County dispatchers what trail he was on and they were able to locate him and lead rescuers to him.
The area where he fell is not well known and they did a great job locating him and pulling the rescue together, Tolman, a Franklin County dispatcher who was off-duty at the time, said.
An Industry firefighter climbed down to the boy, Farmington Fire Rescue Captain Tim “TD” Hardy said Tuesday. Rescuers used a rope-and-pulley system connected to a Stokes basket and rescuers to haul the teen up the cliff.
Farmington Fire Rescue’s ATV took him to an ambulance waiting at Wing’s Field, Hardy said.
The Farmington and New Sharon fire rescue departments and NorthStar EMS ambulance responded, along with the Maine Warden Service.
