For those who see immigration as a critical national issue, the most urgent needs are to secure America’s borders and take away the jobs magnet that draws people here by making E-Verify mandatory.
And yet, what is the “hot” issue in the U.S. Congress today? A cockamamie procedure called “Queen of the Hill.” Under that obscure and little used method, four bills granting amnesty could be brought to the floor of Congress for a vote, bypassing the normal procedure of first going through committees.
Rep. Bruce Poliquin signed on to that nefarious scheme with his co-sponsorship of Resolution, H.Res.774 that enables all that to happen.
As it now stands, legislators are within two or three votes of getting 218 signatures on a “discharge petition” to get it to the floor for a vote. The likely “winner” — with almost total support by the Democrats — will be a bill granting amnesty to 3.2 million so-called Dreamers — illegal aliens who were brought here as children.
Rather than doing the “people’s business,” as Speaker Paul Ryan has said on many occasions, members of Congress are frittering away valuable legislative sessions on questionable legislation when they should be going to the basics of their constitutional obligations by ensuring the security, safety and sustainability of this nation.
Congressman Poliquin could help by removing his name from that odious measure.
