JAY — Tri Town Medical Foundation, a nonprofit philanthropic organization, is hoping to raise $5,000 to continue its scholarship program for graduates of Spruce Mountain High School.
The organization has been informed by its accounting firm that it could be in danger of losing its private foundation status, which would mean fewer scholarships.
Since its founding in 2002, nearly $150,000 has been paid to local students from Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls for studies in nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, dental and other medical disciplines. Recent awards have averaged $2,000 each.
The volunteer board of directors is hoping to raise $5,000. To help in this effort, an anonymous donor has offered to match all donations up to $2,500.
The directors are Wilson Eastman, Shirley Heald and Norman St. Pierre, all of Jay, Theresa Timberlake of Livermore and Gary Knight of Livermore Falls.
