HEBRON — Faye Marie Tobie left this world Thursday, June 21, with peace and grace surrounded by the love of her family and her loving Beacon Hospice caregiver, Crystal.
Faye was born in Hartland on March 2, 1932. She graduated from Hartland Academy in 1950 an honor student and an accomplished basketball player for her school.
Faye lived all of her life in Maine after a brief stay in California with her first husband, James Snow of Hartland. They settled in Poland Spring, where they raised their four daughters.
There she was an instructor for Job Corps Center for Women in the late ‘60s when Job Corps leased the Poland Spring Hotel to serve as a dormitory for the students. She loved her students and her time teaching. Later, she was secretary to the owner of Eastern Fire Protection Co. in Lewiston until her retirement in 1985.
Faye was an avid angler and hunter and was known for her catches of huge lake trout and salmon. She and her husband, Charlie Tobie, along with their black Labs spent many hours in the lakes and woods of Maine loving life.
Faye was predeceased by her parents, Delbert and Cleora Cool; her brother, Frederick Cool; her brother-in-law, Ronald Johnston; and her first husband, James Snow.
Faye is survived by her sisters Jackie Johnston and Starlene Knight.
Faye leaves a heartbroken husband of 45 years, Charles Tobie, of Hebron, where they have resided for the past 40 years. He has been her loving, steadfast caregiver with her journey of Alzheimer’s disease. As a result of his dedication and that of her daughters and their husbands, Faye was blessed to die in her home where she was most content and spent so many happy years. In recent months the family was so blessed to have the care and assistance of Crystal and Jessica from Beacon Hospice, and the love and care of Carrie Tirrell of Oxford, her caregiver. I really don’t know what we would have done without them.
Also feeling tremendous loss are their children and families: Valerie Snow Vincent, Diane and Tom Folsom, Linda and Frank Dunton, Deborah and David Jankowski, Chris and Amos Gray, David Tobie and Ann Parker, Cindy and Laird Shirley; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews; and her much-loved black Lab, Abby.
Faye had a way about her of peace and dignity and making everyone she cared about feel so loved. We are left with those amazing memories, and as a total stranger said the day before she died, “May she be back with all her memories peacefully.” Maybe not a stranger after all.
Faye M. Tobie
