SHELBURNE, N.H. — Nina Pierce Hayes, 89, passed away at her home in Shelburne, NH, on June 20, surrounded by family, after a short illness.
She was born March 31, 1929 in West Paris, the daughter of Wilma Kimball and Floreston Pierce. She attended North Paris and West Paris schools, and graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, and Pelletier Beauty School in Lewiston. She was married to Warren “Tommy” Hayes on Dec. 21, 1947, in Bethel. She worked for Globe Department Store, Kidder Greenhouse, Shelburne Birches Motor Inn and John Forbes Realty, before opening her own business, AV Realty. She was a New Hampshire licensed broker. She served on the Shelburne Park Commission, Conservation Commission, Library Committee, Shelburne Union Church Committee and was ballot clerk. Her most-important job was being a wonderful, loving, caring, supportive wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Warren “Tommy” Hayes; three daughters: Marlene Hayes and husband, David Stevens, of Gorham, NH; Melanie Devoid of Tempe, Ariz.; and Marcia Kulpa and husband, Arthur “Butch,” of Vassalboro, Maine; a son, Merrit Hayes, and wife, Lorna, of Roseville, Calif.; one brother, Maurice “Bud” Pierce, of Brewer, Maine; two sisters: Alice Keddy of Gorham, Maine, and Maxine Roak of North Waterford, Maine; grandchildren Stanley Warren and wife, Nikki; Teresa Stevens; Karen O’Brien; Krystle Frank and husband, Joseph; Cassandra Devoid; and Ryan Hayes and wife, Rebekah; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Myron, Floreston Jr., Franklin and Elwin; and sisters Lucille and Geraldine.
