Senior Employment Program Presentation — 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, with Danielle Martel of Associates for Training and Development. This is a multi-state, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide job training and employment services to workers aged 55-plus. Paid training opportunities in food preparation, retail sales, customer service and healthcare are provided. This presentation talks about the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and the eligibility requirements.
Lost Your Zest? — 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, with Chloe Giampaolo. This program provides guidance for ways folks can increase happiness. Someone is going to win a prize.
Parkinson’s Disease — 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 12, with Angela Moore from Beacon Hospice. Parkinson’s disease is a neurogenic disorder that affects specific parts of the brain. It results in tremors, rigid movements and issues with balance. Join discussions about diagnosis, treatment and associated symptoms. Ways to live with and understand the diagnosis will also be discussed.
Safe Driving — 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, with George Davis from AARP. Cost: $20, $15 for members, paid directly to AARP. Drivers 55-plus who complete this class are eligible for discounts on auto insurance for three years. Bring a driver’s license, lunch and membership card.
Fraud & Scams — 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, with Valerie Cole of SeniorsPlus. This workshop gives the information needed to determine what is real and what is a scam. The class will take a closer look at scams and fraud, how to recognize them when they happen, as well as how to protect oneself from becoming a victim and reporting activity to the proper authorities.
Legal Planning for Seniors — 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, with Meg Greene, Esq. and Kenleigh Nicoletta, Esq., Brann & Isaacson. Participants in this class will learn about financial powers of attorney, advance directives and planning for the disposition of property on death. There are many important considerations before authorizing another person to make financial and health care decisions on one’s behalf. In addition, planning for the transfer of property on death involves more than just signing a will; without additional planning, property can pass to unintended beneficiaries after passing.
Cooking for a Low-Carb Diet — 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, with the SeniorsPlus Nutrition Team. This class will focus on low-carb cheats and hacks for healthier and easier eating. There will be recipes handed out and lists of low-carb and no-carb foods that will help folks stick to a diabetic diet and control blood sugars.

Gentle Chair Yoga — 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays, June 11 to July 31, with Tisha Bremner. Designed to increase vitality, gain a deeper sense of balance, and find your inner calm. Combines meditation, easy warm-ups, light stretches, and gentle yoga postures. Cost: $40 for eight weeks or $8 for drop-in.
Total Strength and Balance — 11:15 a.m. to noon, or 12:15 to 1 p.m. Mondays; 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays; 11:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. or 12:30 to 1:10 p.m. Fridays, with Linn Morin, certified trainer. Living Well for Better Health — 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, July 11 to Aug. 15, with Crystal Fitch and Juanita Bean, Health Reach. Location: Rangeley Family Medicine, 42 Dallas Hill Road, Rangeley. This six-week-long interactive workshop teaches real-life skills for living a full, healthy life with a chronic condition. Guidance will be provided on better ways to manage health, stay active and medication usage. Limit 16.
