WINTHROP — After a 25-year career in the Winthrop Police Department, interim Chief Dan Cook will retire this month, according to Town Manager Ryan Frost.
Cook has led the department for about a year. He assumed that role after Frost became town manager in June 2017.
The Town Council will consider how to fill the opening at its meeting Monday night, Frost said.
While Thursday will be Cook’s last day in the office, he has earned paid time off through July 20.
This past year, Cook’s annual salary was $66,500, according to Frost.
Until the council meets next week, Frost said he will provide administrative support to the department, while two supervisors, Detective Cpl. Peter Struck and Patrol Sgt. John Hall, help with day-to-day operations.
Cook informed the town about his pending retirement in early June. He didn’t respond to a request for comment Thursday.
Sarah Fuller, chairwoman of the Town Council, said in a text message that the group will hold a closed-door meeting to discuss the position, as is common when it mulls personnel decisions.
Frost declined to discuss what options he may present to the council before that meeting.
