WINTHROP — The Bailey Public Library in downtown Winthrop will host educator Karen Toothaker at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10. Toothaker will host an all-ages tea party to celebrate the release of her new book, “The Rag Doll Gift.” Rag dolls of many styles will be available for children at the event, and children are encouraged to bring their own rag doll. The program will also feature children’s crafts and refreshments. The event is part of the ongoing Lakes Region Forum sponsored by the Winthrop Public Library Foundation.
Karen Toothaker is an early childhood educator, curriculum developer, children’s book author, dance teacher, community organizer, mother and grandmother. As part of the program she will discuss the effectiveness of picture books in stimulating the mind, opening conversation and offering emotional support.
Toothaker grew up in Winthrop and graduated with a degree in early childhood education from the University of Maine at Farmington. In addition to owning and operating a local nursery school for over 30 years she has served on the Winthrop Recreation Committee, Winthrop Plays Outside Committee and is an active member of the United Methodist Church.
