AUBURN — Marie “Mary Jane, Janie, Jane” Girouard, 82, of Auburn, passed away at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice on Saturday, July 14. Mary Jane was born in North Stratford, N.H., on July 24, 1935, a daughter of Trefla and Madora (LeClaire) Poulin.
Mary Jane was known for her compassion for people and for her love of making others smile. She was fondly known as the “Mom of the Neighborhood” to her children and their friends. She always kept her family in touch through phone calls and gatherings. Janie was a strong fighter, surviving several bouts with cancer.
Mary Jane worked at Knapp Shoe for many years and enjoyed sewing and doing crafts. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered many hours at local nursing homes, especially at Russell Park and Clover manors.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Roland Girouard, her children Lillian Doyon and Terry Cullenberg and her husband Kevin. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Johanna Cullenberg, a sister, Angie Merrill, and her brother Sonny and Normand Poulin
Mary Jane was predeceased by her first husband and the father of her children, Raymond, Joseph Doyon, and her brothers Bertrand, Joseph, Paul, Victor and Bob Poulin; and her sisters Denise Goulet, Marie Courrier, Rita Rancourt and Helen Poulin.
