LEWISTON — Popular downtown lunch and dinner spot Marche Kitchen & Wine Bar is closing its doors.
Restaurant management said in a Facebook post that it would close Friday and thanked customers on owners Gary and Susan Hall’s behalf for four years of business.
“Come see us one last time, (or two) as we finish up our stay on Lisbon St.,” the post read.
Marche is across from Fuel on lower Lisbon Street in an area that’s seen a lot of activity and investment in the past few years. The building at 40 Lisbon St. is listed for sale by Keller Williams Realty for $295,000 and describes a 4,224-square-foot turnkey restaurant and two-bedroom executive apartment above.
In 2014, when Susan Hall bought Marche from founder Eric Agren, she said it was a natural extension of work she was already doing downtown at her wine store, The Vault. She talked about expanding the menu and offering culinary education classes.
Efforts to reach Hall were unsuccessful. The restaurant was closed at lunch on Monday.
Customers were taking the loss hard online, with one writing, “I feel like someone (just) burned down my house.”
