DENMARK — The Denmark Arts Center, 50 West Main St., presents The Celebration Barn Road Show’s “Out of This World” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 27.
A fusion of comedy, physical theater and vaudeville, “Out of This World” celebrates creativity and imagination. Following the performance, both adults and kids are invited to participate in our Theater Play Workshop, with games and fun exercises to bring imagination to life.
Celebration Barn is an immersive physical theater center that draws artists from around the world seeking to train and create their own works. The Barn’s mission is to inspire creativity and community by harnessing the power of live performance. Its 46-year history fuels an atmosphere that encourages artists to play at their creative edge — nurtured and provoked by a community of collaborators — and launch performance in new directions.
Director Fritz Grobe is a five-time gold medalist with the International Juggler’s Association, he toured nationally with the theatrical circus Birdhouse Factory and is co-founder of Eepybird.com (the “Coke and Mentos guys”).
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, Denmark Arts Center presents an evening with Half Moon Jug Band.
The Half Moon Jug Band is a three-man mob who musically engage audiences with banjoes, kazoos, guitars, saxophones and silliness. Jug band music is homemade music. You won’t hear it on the radio and you won’t see it on MTV. If it sounds good, if the audience claps, if it feels honest, then it’s jug band music. The band thrives on interaction with their audiences. They do whatever it takes to put on a show for all ages, studding performances with jokes, stories and mandatory sing-alongs. The Half Moon Jug Band started as a merry band of sidewalk subversives entertaining passersby on Exchange Street in Portland more than 15 years ago. They can now be found on the road playing concerts and festivals all over the Northeast.
Tickets to see The Celebration Barn Road Show’s “Out of This World” or Half Moon Jug Band are available for $15 for adults, $12 for seniors 65-plus and $8 for kids under 18. All tickets are general admission; members receive priority seating. Lobby and concessions open at 7 p.m. Purchasing tickets in advance is strongly recommended.
