LEWISTON — The Public Theatre is requesting pictures and resumes from non-union actors for two roles in their upcoming season. Actors must be available to rehearse during the day, generally 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. All roles are salaried. Local auditions will be held in early August by appointment only and readings will be from the script.
The Public Theatre is seeking actors for the following roles in the following plays:
“Things My Mother Taught Me” by Katherine DiSavino; contract dates: Oct. 1 to 28. Max: The age of this role can be between 45-70, male or female with a Polish dialect (Eastern European or Spanish dialect is also possible). Max is an immigrant apartment building superintendent, with self-serving work rules and habits who is more interested in sharing a glass of vodka with a tenant than fixing their door. He/she has a certain old world wisdom and charm about them.
“A Christmas Carol” adapted by Christopher Schario; contract dates: Dec. 3 to 16. Belle/Fan/Narrator: Female, attractive young woman, 20s to mid-30s, earnest, loving. Must have a sense of humor, and the ability to play multiple roles and handle narration. This adaptation features a small cast playing multiple roles and one actor playing Scrooge. All actors perform narration of Dickens’ text, as well as scene work. Both British dialect and Standard American Speech are used in this adaptation. Show requires versatile actors who make playful choices and are good with language.
Anyone interested in being considered for either of these roles should send a picture and resume to The Public Theatre, 31 Maple St., Lewiston, ME 04240 by Aug. 1, and they will be contacted by the theater to set up an audition appointment if they are interested.
