JAY — Selectpersons voted Monday to allow the sewer superintendent to spend up to $130,000 to buy three generators for three sewer pump stations, including installation, wiring and removal of old generators.

The board had agreed to spend up to $50,000 for a generator for pump station 2. That has already been installed and Superintendent Mark Holt expected to spend about $40,000 from the capital reserve account.

Based on the cost of removal, retrofitting and installation of the generator installed at pump station 2, Holt asked the board to authorize the Sewer Department to spend up to $130,000 from the Sewer Capital Reserve Account for the project. That would leave about $200,000 in the reserve account.

Holt said that if they separately bought the three generators, two 80-kilowatts and a 60-kilowatt, it would cost $75,250. If they bought them together, it would cost $71,485. The prices include a standby generator to be supplied for one month for about $3,000.

Bought together, the generators would be installed over three to four weeks versus three separate projects over the next several months, Holt said. The town would save $10,000 by buying the generators all at once and having them installed within a month, Holt said.

Selectpersons authorized Holt to get the current generators appraised in case the board wants to consider selling them once they are removed to offset the cost of the new equipment.
