BETHEL — RSU/SAD 44 Adult and Continuing Education is offering pottery classes to its August lineup. The pottery classes will be held at the West Bethel Pottery Studio.
Try the Potter’s Wheel: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. This two-hour session for adults will offer the opportunity to try the potter’s wheel. Working on the wheel is an age-old practice of using one’s hands and a spinning wheel to create useful and beautiful objects out of clay. Attendees will learn the basics of centering the clay on the wheel, opening the form and pulling up the walls to make everything from bowls to vases. Cost is $40 payable to RSU/SAD 44 Adult and Continuing Education.
Leaf Impression Bowls: 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. In this one-day, hand-building course, attendees will create their own unique leaf impression bowl using leaves from trees in the yard or plants in the garden. Participants will press the leaf into a clay slab to leave a detailed impression and then form it into a bowl for a one-of-a-kind creation. Finished projects will be microwave and dishwasher safe and glazed in choice of color. It will be ready for pick up approximately two weeks after class. No previous clay experience is required for this class. All tools and supplies will be provided by the clay studio. Cost is $35 payable to RSU/SAD 44 Adult and Continuing Education.
