Three people died Monday in a small plane crash in Piscataquis County.

The twin-propeller plane crashed shortly before noon at the Greenville Municipal Airport. Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland confirmed three fatalities according to News Center Maine (WCSH/WLBZ).

The Federal Aviation Administration provided a statement to News Center Maine saying it would investigate the crash.

“An Aerostar AEST aircraft crashed on approach to Greenville Municipal Airport in Greenville, ME about 10:55 a.m. today…. The FAA will investigate and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will determine the probable cause for the accident.”

The aircraft departed from Pembroke Airport in Ontario, Canada, and was heading to Charlottetown Airport on Prince Edward Island. Canada, according to the FAA statement.

No other details were immediately available.
