TURNER — Silvia “Sam” Moore-Young of Turner was inducted into the Maine Music Educators Hall of Fame on May 17. ?This award honors music educators who, by virtue of their contributions, are recognized as being the most highly regarded professional leaders in the state of Maine.

Requirements for nomination are that a nominee, living or deceased, active or retired, should be or should have been:

• A professional music educator who has made a long-standing significant contribution to the school music program in Maine;

• A person who has demonstrated a concern for music education by active involvement in local, district, regional or national professional music education organizations;

• An active music educator or administrator in music education in a Maine school or institution of higher learning for an extended period of time; and

• An active member of NafME for a period of not less than 20 years.

Moore-Young is a professional music educator who has made a long-standing significant contribution to a school music program in Maine. Moore-Young recently retired from teaching music at Carrie Ricker School in Litchfield. Throughout her career, she has taught music in Turner, Sabattus and Litchfield.

She has been active in local, district, regional and national professional music education organizations for throughout her teaching career. Moore-Young has served as district chair, Maine Music Educators Association President, executive director and has led the charge for countless changes and initiatives for the Maine Music Educators Association. Moore-Young has been the face of the Maine Music Educators at the eastern division and on the national level for the past 10 years.
