UPDATE: Couple in ICU after falling 3 floors from Lewiston porch
LEWISTON — Two people were seriously injured when they fell from a third-floor porch on Pierce Street just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.
Lt. David St. Pierre said a man and woman were taken from the apartment building at 133 Pierce St. to Central Maine Medical Center.
St. Pierre said their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Police Detective David Levesque also was taken to CMMC after inhaling glass when he kicked down a door while responding to the scene. His injuries were also not life-threatening.
“He was having some difficulty breathing,” St. Pierre said.
At the scene, the side porch railing on the third story of the three-story building was missing. The victims fell onto the paved driveway of the house next door, and there was a pile of railing slats on the ground. Police cars lined the street as officers ducked out of the rain to interview witnesses.
They were continuing their investigation at 10:30 p.m.
“There’s nothing at this point to lead us to believe there’s anything suspicious other than a railing giving way,” St. Pierre said.
The building is described as a three-family residence owned by Bailbrook Properties LLC of Standish, according to city property records.
