NORWAY — A couple from Greenwood were injured Thursday night when their van crashed after swerving to avoid an object on Route 118, Norway police officer John Lewis said.

Amanda Fox, 45, and her husband, Richard, 48, were extricated from their 1996 Ford Econoline van and taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, the patrolman said.

Amanda was driving west toward Waterford shortly after 8 p.m. when she swerved to avoid hitting an object in the road and overcorrected the steering, sending the van into a ditch and rolling it onto its side, Lewis said. Both had to be helped from the vehicle.

The road was closed for more than two hours, the officer said.

Norway Fire Department and PACE Ambulance assisted at the scene.
