LISBON — Two drivers were taken to a Lewiston hospital after a head-on collision Wednesday morning on Route 196.
The crash happened at 8:07 a.m. in front of the post office.
Lisbon police officer Jeff Picard said a 2007 Toyota RAV4 was headed east on Route 196 when it crossed the center line and went into the path of an oncoming 2005 Volkswagen Jetta.
The Toyota was driven by 23-year-old Abigail Krolak, with a last known address in Brunswick. The Volkswagen was driven by Thomas Twist Jr., 41, of Waldoboro.
Both drivers were the only occupants in their vehicles. Both were taken to Central Maine Medical Center with injuries that didn’t appear life threatening.
Picard said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Traffic was delayed due to the crash as crews had to intermittently shut the road down for about an hour.
On Tuesday, a crash on Route 196 also clogged traffic near Crafts Cars in Lisbon Falls. The collision was reported at 5:33 p.m. at 723 Lisbon St.
Lisbon Detective Sgt. William Tapley said a westbound 2003 Jeep Liberty hauling a 16-foot boat was stopped in traffic. The Jeep was driven by James Rowe, 48, of Durham.
Ralph Williams, 61, of Topsham was driving a 2003 Ford Econoline van westbound. Tapley said Williams didn’t see the vehicle stopped in traffic in front of him because the sun was in his eyes, and hit the boat.
Tapley said the impact broke the tongue of the boat trailer and pushed it into the Jeep.
Williams was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for a complaint of pain.
