FARMINGTON — The Farmington Police Department has issued a warning about an “IRS” scam that has resurfaced.
Police said many area residents have received calls in which they are told the IRS is making “serious allegations” against them.
The telephone number that appears on caller ID is from New York, according to police.
When this scam first appeared in spring 2016, receivers of the calls were told to call U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ fraud hotline at 855-303-9470.
Farmington police said they are not aware of anyone being defrauded by these calls. Thus, officers are reminding people to be careful with all personal information, and to never divulge birth dates, Social Security information or account numbers or passwords.
