DEAR SUN SPOTS: Please let your readers know Museum L-A wants to hear from them about professional musicians who made an impact during their lifetime. Museum L-A invites everyone to bring us a photo in memory of a professional musician who you would like to have remembered at our “Dance Party under the Stars II.” The memorial photos of the musicians will be on display at the party on the exterior fence where our guests enter to enjoy the festivities or across the footbridge.
The party will be held on Friday, Sept. 7, from 7 to 11 p.m. Our future home, located on the shores of the beautiful Androscoggin River near Simard-Payne Memorial Park and the footbridge that spans the river to Bonney Park in Auburn, will be the exciting venue for the celebration.
Did you know that in the ’40s and ’50s Lewiston-Auburn had the highest number of musicians per capita in the United States? Music was their work and Museum L-A wants to honor that uplifting work.
Imagine a beautiful evening under a starry, moonlit sky with you and your guests rockin’ with the music of locally-renowned Good & Plenty Band playing the sounds of the ’70s and ’80s.
“The Dance Party is a wonderful opportunity to remember the musicians who have passed over the years and who have played a major role in shaping our community with their musical talents,” says Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Museum L-A’s executive director. “We want to bring back the fond memories of past musicians while hosting a spectacular night along the river for the people of Lewiston-Auburn.”
Museum L-A will be accepting photographs of past musicians Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. between now and Aug. 24.
Museum L-A is located in the Bates Mill Complex at 35 Canal St. in Lewiston. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Special tour requests and large group tours outside of these hours are available by appointment.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Hartford Heritage Society is again hosting an Antique Auto Show on Aug. 25 with the rain date on Aug. 26. We are looking for anyone with an antique auto to come to the J & O Irish Museum from 1 to 3 p.m. Let everyone admire your vehicle! There are no registration fees. Each entry will receive a homemade jelly and relish. The Best of Show will take home a basket with some homemade goodies. The museum is on Route 140, Main Street in Hartford. For more information about this antique auto show, please call Rosie at 207-597-2270.
We are also looking for volunteers to help with painting and wallpapering. The painting consists of woodwork, windows and doors on the second floor. We also need to have the outside deck and railings painted. We hoping there is a scout troop or someone who needs to do some community volunteering for a school project. If you can help, please call Doreen at 207-224-7147.
