PARIS — Paris Public Library’s Novel Idea Book Club will discuss “The Cay,” a junior historical fiction novel by Theodore Taylor, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The book has won more than 12 literary awards, including New York Times Best Selling Book of the Year and School Library Journal Best Book of the Year. The Washington Star referred to “The Cay” as…” one of the best survival stories since ‘Robinson Crusoe.'”

In 1942, Phillip, a 12-year-old boy, is leaving the island of Curaco off Venezuela with his mother on a freighter. The ship is torpedoed by a German submarine and Phillip becomes marooned on a deserted island in the Caribbean with an elderly, blind, West Indian man.
