Barefoot in Maine
By Nancy Ann Schaefer
All pain and pleasure is where you put your attention.
—Deepak Chopra
Walking
along pale pebbled beach
cool saline breeze
lone seagull screams
blue waves
ripple coastline —
all blur into now
under sun-high sky
Barefoot
over clastic rock:
pain
with each step forward
pleasure
with each step lifted
This up-down rhythm
— superb duet
this journey
of moments
already arrived.
