SKOWHEGAN — Donald Rene Laverdiere, 71, a resident of Embden and formerly of Jay, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital.

He was born Aug. 5, 1947, in Lewiston, the son of Armand P. and Carolyn (Scott) Laverdiere. Donald graduated from Jay High School in 1965, and later received his associate’s degree in papermaking from the University of Maine at Orono. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

On Nov. 23, 2002, he married Ann Hooper after being together since 1992. Donald worked as a supervisor for International Paper in Jay for 22 years, and Madison Paper in Madison for 20 years, retiring in 2009. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling and reading.

He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Laverdiere, of Jay; his wife, Ann Laverdiere, of Embden; his daughters Amy Laverdiere of San Francisco, and Donna Laverdiere and her husband, Loren Crippin, of Martinez, Calif.; his grandchildren Everett and River Crippin; and his sister, JoAnn Green, of Jay.

He was predeceased by his father, Armand Laverdiere, and his sister, Paula Merrill.

A funeral service with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
