The Lewiston/Auburn Nordiques played into overtime tied at two against the New England Stars until Joe Bisson scored for L/A just 1:48 into the period for the 3-2 win.

The opening game for the Nordiques was a hard-fought one. Sam Frechette scored the Nordique’s first goal of the 2018-19 season 8:28 into the first period for a 1-0 lead on the power play.

In the second period, New England’s Connor Barter scored three and a half minutes into the game. The game was tied at one until JP Chauvin scored with 32 seconds remaining in the period to give the Nordiques a 2-1 advantage.

Ryan Caise tied the game for the Stars on the power play with just three minutes remaining in the game to send it to overtime. Bisson’s quick goal in the extra period sealed it for L/A.

L/A goalie Daniel Miller and New England’s Matthew Marini both had 16 saves.

Junior Bruins 4, Twin City Thunder 3

The Junior Bruins took a 3-0 lead into the final period of play in the second game in as many days with the Twin City Thunder but had to hang on for dear life as the Thunder roared back in the third to tie the game at 3 late in the final frame.

Peter Nugent scored for the Junior Bruins with just 42 seconds remaining to give his team the 4-3 win in Marlborough, MA to move to 2-0 on the young season.

Early on it was all Junior Bruins, with Brandon Cope scoring in the first period followed by a goal from both Adam Romano and EJ Miller to accrue a 3-0 lead.

In the third period, the Thunder found their scoring touch. Aleksi Petrow scored two goals within 40 seconds of each other nine minutes into the third to cut the lead to one. Next was Matt Hanlon, who tied it up at three with a bit over five minutes remaining.

Thunder goalie Derek Fournier saved 19 shots while Greg Iverson saved 27 in the win.
