MECHANIC FALLS — Regional School Unit 16 Adult Education announces classes.

Chalk Painting — 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 22 and 29. Registration is $24. Bring a small piece of wooden furniture and Nathalie Roy will help create the vintage, cottage, antique or modern look desired. No experience required. A supply list will be provided upon registration. 

College Transitions — New 14-week session starts Sept. 26 on Wednesday afternoons. The class is for those thinking about going to college but would like to brush up on their skills first.

Computer classes — New session start soon. Call or see website for more details. From computer basics to using Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel, this class has a variety of computer classes designed to meet stuednts’ personal and workforce needs. Students will also receive help in improving typing skills.

Digital Photography — 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4. Registration is $12. Learn the basics of using a digital camera from photographer Shannon Dalton, including common settings and how to best take everyday snapshots. Tips and options on getting photos processed will also be covered. 

Heat Pumps — 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27. Registration is $5. Heat pumps are an efficient, alternative source of heating and cooling for many homes and businesses. Master HVAC technician Bill Bouchard will cover the popularity, benefits, types and costs associated with heat pumps.

Intro to Self-Employment — 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. Free but must sign up in advance. This workshop be Karleen Andrews from New Ventures Maine will help students decide if self-employment is right for them — from entrepreneurship and risk to business plan and financial considerations. 

Medicare 101 with SeniorsPlus — 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. Free, but must sign up in advance. For those turning 65 soon, this class led by Kerri Faria will go over the Medicare program and help people understand all the information and make informed decisions.

Tai chi — 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 18 through Dec. 11. Registration for the 13-week session is $60. Combine breathing techniques with slow, gentle movements intended to improve health and muscle tone. Tai chi can calm the mind, strengthen the body and improve balance. Students will work alongside Christine O’Donnell. For all ages and fitness levels. 

Using Essential Oils — 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 20. Registration is $13 and includes materials and supplies. Learn about and create natural solutions for everyday products using essential oils. Certified Holistic Wellness Coach Cheryl Horton will discuss uses for oils, quality and safety, and what to consider when choosing them. Students will get to create three products to take home.

Yoga — 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 17 through Dec. 3. Registration is $60 for this 10-week session. This gentle flow class, facilitated by Robyn Born, uses a sequence of poses held for longer breath cycles to refine the posture of the body, mind and heart. All levels are welcome, including pre- and post-natal, seniors and those with limited mobility. Poses can be modified for different levels of fitness and experience. Bring a mat, water and a blanket.
