NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine announces its October schedule of events and programs.

Registration for the 2nd annual Turkey Trot scheduled for Nov. 22 is open. Volunteers are also needed to prepare runner bags a day or two before the race, help with set up the day before the race and morning of the race, man water stations, registration table and food table, and help with cleanup. Drop-in hours are Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. plus Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or look for resources. They have many pamphlets and a lending library. The center is also a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or take time for yourself by participating in scheduled programs. Activities such as coloring, knitting and games are available at all times.

Women’s Cancer Support Group meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2,  at the center, 199 Main St. Bring a bag lunch or snack. Call Patti-Ann at 207-744-6173 for more information.

Caregiver Support Group Fridays are from 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26, in the Navigation Office, East Wing basement at Stephens Memorial Hospital. It’s a safe place to meet and develop a mutual support system plus learn positive ways to take care of oneself. Contact Kayla, MSW, social worker navigator at 207-744-6174.

Men’s Rally Group meets from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the center.  Vance Jordan and Nel Bernard facilitate the group for men and their caregivers to connect with others who are also affected by cancer. Nel will offer a chair massage to those interested. Call 890-0329 for more information.

Yoga Warriors is held from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31,  at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St., Norway. This free, gentle yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures, and guided meditation and relaxation. Banding Together To Restore, an exercise class, is held from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St., Norway. The program, led by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored Therabands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities that will safely gain their desired goals. Getting back energy and the ability to move easier and carry out daily tasks and enjoying life are part of this program. Preregistration is encouraged. Yoga for Wellness is held from 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26, at the center, 199 Main St. The class will teach breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Check the website for more information.

Self-Reflexology is held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12,  at the center. Karen Tibbetts will demonstrate how applying pressure to reflex points may help improve circulation and reduce body stress.

Self-Reiki will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23,  at the center. Charlotte Labelle will demonstrate how Reiki helps alleviate stress and promote relaxation.

Stampin’ Up is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the center. Materials and instruction are provided to make a variety of cards.

Fun with Crafts is set for 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2, 9 and 30. Volunteers will bring a different project to try each week. Learn something new or bring a project to share.

Pumpkin Carving will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23. Pumpkins will be displayed at McLaughlin Garden’s Jack O’Lantern Spectacular.

Paint with Watercolors is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24. Suzanne Hardy is back to lead a session in free painting with watercolors. Supplies and pictures will be provided. For more information call 207-890-0329.

Beading Project is planned for 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Lively Accents, 310 Main St., Norway. Learn how to make something with beads.
