Scouts play a game called block ’em, sock,’em, using a tennis ball or slingshot to knock down a target at Hosmer Field in Rumford on Saturday.

RUMFORD — More than 60 Scouts with the Webelos Woods Abnaki District gathered for the weekend on Hosmer Field.

Committee Chairman Richard Philbrick said packs and/or troops from Lisbon, Auburn-Lewiston, Brunswick and Bath pitched tents. He said it was a bit cool Friday night, but the Scouts had a good time around the campfire they built.

On Saturday, Scouts took turns at several stations. They included earning a badge for sculpting, a block ’em, sock,’em game using a tennis ball or slingshot to knock down a target, and a Lego-building event.

On Saturday evening, around a large campfire, a ceremony was held in which Webelos crossed over to the rank of Boy Scout. The Scouts also held skits and other contests.

Other events including a tug-of-war, fire-building, knot-tying and a relay race on the track.

The event was hosted by Troop 580 of the Rumford area. Coordinating the event were Philbrick and Troop 580 Scoutmaster Richard Masterson.
