Waterford Historical Society to meet
WATERFORD — The next meeting of the Waterford Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Wilkins House, next to the Waterford Congregational Church. The program will be on Gardens of Waterford, including especially those of Jeanette Payson and Annie Oakes Huntington at Land’s End/Fresh Fields and the formal gardens of Mary Gage Rice at Rydal Mount. Potluck refreshments will be served.
There is no admission and people do not need to be members to attend most of the society’s programs. The Nov. 8 meeting will be held at the Waterford Town Office meeting room and will be a chance to share veterans’ stories and to learn about Honor Flight Maine.

Rumford Area Quilters to meet
RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. All area quilters invited.

Historical society to host Samuel Howes
BUCKFIELD — The Buckfield Historical Society will have Samuel Howes as the guest speaker on Thursday, Oct. 11. at the Buckfield Town Hall. Howes is with the Maine Archives and works a lot with the Jay Historical Society. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7. Open to the public, come and see what the Historical Society has been working on.

Lake Region Fashion Show returns
HARRISON — The Lake Region Fashion Show returns for its second year at the Caswell Building, 42 Main St., at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. This year’s event will provide entertainment, an auction and refreshments as well as the fashion show sponsored by area businesses.
This year’s show with Richard Sykes as MC is sponsored by FireFly Boutique, Sassy & Blue and Sports Haus Ski & Sport Shop, all of Bridgton, and Kargos, of Windham.

Swingin’ Bears October dances
PARIS — Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club of South Paris is hosting two dances in October. The first one will be Saturday, Oct. 13 with the husband and wife team, Kip and Linda Moulton, calling and cuing for the dancing.
The second dance will be Oct. 27. The Swingin’ Bears are hosting the annual Halloween Costume Dance of the Maine Federation of Square Dance Clubs. Ray Hilton, the yodeling square dance club caller, will be the caller. He will alternate calling two mainstream level dances, then one plus level dance. Carol Arsenault will cue the round dancing. Judging of costumes to pick first place, second place and third place with monetary prizes will be given to the winners at the Oct. 27 dance.
Both dances will be at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St. At both dances the admission is $8 per dancer. Refreshments will be available throughout the evening. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 drawings. Dancing with be from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Moving Freely classes for seniors
MEXICO — Moving Freely classes for seniors will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday Oct. 15 to Nov. 23, at the Mexico Recreation Center and gym. Moving Freely classes are designed to keep seniors moving and living in their own homes and capably performing daily living tasks and skills for as long as possible.

Lithuanian Heritage Club bus trip
RUMFORD — Lithuanian Heritage Club traveling to South Boston Lithuanian Club for lunch. Lunch can include Lithuanian or American dishes. The club will then travel to Boston’s Haymarket Square for a few hours of touring or shopping. Price for this trip is approximately $70.

Library hosting cookbook discussion
NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library is once again hosting a cookbook discussion from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, with recipes from “Bringit!: Tried and True Recipes for Potlucks and Casual Entertaining” by Ali Rosen. Discussion will be about the book and its recipes.
