100 years ago: 1918

Mr. A. Waterman at East Auburn has been for many years manufacturing pegs. He makes nearly all of the pegs in the Lewiston and Auburn and vicinity, except those driven by machinery. He uses about 15 cords of white birch per year and makes from six to ten thousand bushels of pegs which sells for $1.50 per bushel.

50 years ago: 1968

Miss Linda Bikulcius, a student at Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion, presented the program for the morning meeting of the Neighborhood Mothers Club held recently at the High Street Congregational Church, Auburn. She spoke on basic hair care and her interesting, as well as informative program, was followed by a question and answer period. The meeting was attended by about 40 mothers with their children which numbered approximately 100.

25 years ago: 1993

A “Christmas Happenings Fair” will be held Saturday of the United Methodist Church of Auburn on Park Avenue with activities getting under way at 9 a.m. and continuing until 2 p.m. Among those who have used their talents to create Christmas crafts are Marjorie Merrill and Ada Carroll. Offered will be jewelry, toys, candy, plants, books, a variety of craft items and much more. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. by members of the church’s youth group and at 5 p.m. there will be a public baked bean supper.
