PARIS —  The Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 Monday evening to review the duties of the Parks and Recreation Committee and the recreation director and make changes to ensure better communication.

In October, the board received two letters of resignation from committee members: Chairwoman Krystall Rudman and Jennifer Lewis. Rudman wrote that she felt “there has been a lack of communication between the board, Recreation Director Shannon Moxcey and Town Manager Vic Hodgkins,” including “a lack of returning emails and calls, to not following through on what has been asked.”

“I do not wish to be a part of a board where decisions are not made as a whole group,” Rudman wrote. “Lately, I feel like (committee) meetings have been futile and I am done wasting my time.”

At the October meeting, Selectman Scott Buffington said that it seemed, “We have two different groups trying to do the same thing in different ways.” He urged Rudman to stay on the committee while officials figured out how to improve communication between the committee and Moxcey.

At Monday’s meeting, Selectman John Andrews said he didn’t want to see the committee members go anywhere.

“A lot of people do hard work on that committee,” Andrews said. “Do we want to add to (the committee’s) charge that it reports to the recreation director, and then the recreation director would report to the town manager?”

Selectman Chris Summers said that it would streamline things.

After some discussion, Andrews made a motion for the board to review the duties of the committee and the director.

In other business, the board said the town’s holiday tree lighting will take place between 4:30 and 5 p.m. at Moore Park. From 5 to 7 p.m. at the Paris Fire Station on Western Avenue, Santa will visit, light refreshments will be served and Christmas music played.
